Those who expect to find mountainous goat pasture on the ‚Plaun Grond’ are very much mistaken. The 18-hole course (length 6,120 m, par 72) that is about to be finished on the plateau south of the Sagogn rural community will not leave much to be desired. The course will be inaugurated in autumn 2009. The Scottish golf course architect, John Chilver-Steiner, who lives in Gonten, has created a perfectly natural golf course. The first nine fairways are mostly so large that even players with higher handicaps will easily be able to cope with them and better players will enjoy a birdie possibility here and there. The course is most impressive from the very first hole. Along with a magnificent view of the Vorderrhein, one of the two source rivers of the Rhine, and the rafts, it’s mainly the great many strategic bunkers that catch the eye. The biotope between the second green and the 6th hole, a short par 3, is beautiful. Towards the end, the first nine holes become more difficult. The 8th hole, a par 3 that leads down to the plain of the 1st and the 9th hole is not easy to negotiate. Whenever the wind blows from the mountain, the ball may simply land too far to the left – out of bounds. The (temporary) final hole, a par 5 where only the tee-off and the green are level, is a true challenge. Due to the hillside location, this hole can claim to be the most difficult one. Even so, if the rough is not too high, a par score is always possible on this hole.
